wrongly accused and jailed
i was living in maple shade new jersey in 2001. i was trying to get a computer repair company started. i had purchased through a magazine called "LOOT" ( a new york , new jersey buy and sell magazine) a box full of computer parts. hard drives modems sound cards and a lot more. i was pulled over by the maple shade police dept. for having a tail light out.i was placed under arrest on an alleged warrant out for my arrest in VA.the warrant did not exist.they searched the motel room that i was living out of at the time and took all my computer equipment , movies , cd's and camera equipment.i was then accused by the us marshal's of possession of child pornography. the hard drives that they said contained the pictures were not mine. they were never in my possession and the search was illegal.my federal public defender was useless. i brought the case laws to her and she refused to put in the motions. i was going to take it to trial when i was approached by a representative of the us attorneys office and told that if i went to trial that i would probably win but they would arrest and indict my fiance a we would both sit in jail for two years waiting for trial. i couldn't allow her to be arrested so i took a plea bargain to protect her.seven years of my life were taken that i can never get back for a crime i did not commit.while on supervised release i passed all the lie detector tests and the therapist i saw said there was no way i was someone who liked that sort of thing.

That's really terrible. It sounds a lot like a setup, and I wonder if the person who sold you the equipment may have been involved in that setup.
It is so important to have a paper trail when you buy or sell something. In this case the paper trail should have included lists of model numbers and serial numbers for the parts you purchased, and you should have paid with a cheque that indicated "spare parts" in the memo field.
I do find the story rather fishy though because as a computer consultant I never buy used parts -- always new (usually from wholesalers) who I have an account set up with before-hand, and ALWAYS have paperwork with it when me or my staff pick it up. This paperwork includes the name of my company, and shows an itemized list of items, with tax numbers and other important details at the bottom of the page.
When you buy stuff from classified ads it's difficult to know if you're buying stolen goods. My guess is that the police didn't believe your explanation about buying used parts for repairing computers because the industry just doesn't work that way. When customers come to me to get their systems fixed, they expect that replacement parts will ALWAYS be new because used parts could, unlike new parts, break down a day or a month later.
Picking up a computer from a customer for repair? Provide some paperwork that shows you have taken it for off-site service. If the police question you about it, you've got convincing evidence that it doesn't belong to you, and then they can question your customer about it instead of throwing you in jail.
I am concerned about your allegation that the U.S. Attourny's office threatened to throw your wife in jail if you chose to persue the matter further. If this is in fact what happened (which I seriously doubt because their mandate is to fight against things like extortion), then you need to speak confidentially to a lawyer who has experience fighting against the U.S. Attourny's office to find out what your options are, and the best way to handle the situation.
QUOTE "I had purchased through a magazine called "LOOT" ( a new york , new jersey buy and sell magazine) a box full of computer partsout of at the time and took all my computer equipment , movies , cd's and camera equipment." You purchased them. They were yours. "I was then accused by the us marshal's of possession of child pornography. the hard drives that they said contained the pictures were not mine. they were never in my possession and the search was illegal." After 911 yes, They had permission to search. Sorry, you fly upside down you get bird do-do in your face.
