Stealing Roommate
Stealing Roommate
Kyler began subletting from myself and my former roommate (who moved in with his significant other) in December 2009 after he moved here from Seattle and didnt have any other place to go. I met Kyler through a friend. Kyler, my roommate and I, drafted a roommate agreement. Kyler agreed to pay 300 dollars a month plus utilities (about 120/month). Kyler, never actually signed the roommate agreement, where my roommate and I did. Kyler began the subletting and things went very well. He was nice, respectful, clean, etc. After a month or two things began to change. He began eating my food, never cleaning unless asked, being very disrespectful-- coming in at all hours of the night and being very loud, etc. Kyler was confronted on these issues and agreed they would change. Soon, things of his began to be moved into the apartment, almost like it was his home, and he demanded that my old roommate remove his things from the apartment, which was not part of the sublet agreement. Kyler then began to talk bad about me to friends, and mutual friends, would not help clean at all. After I confronted him again, and told him I would not be signing the lease with him and he would need to move in May, things became ugly. He would not speak to me, talked bad about me while in the apartment on his phone, would come home at all hours of the night, have loud sexual intercourse enough to wake me up, didnt clean at all, broke things and didnt replace them, etc. At the middle of April I had enough and decided to end the roommate agreement, I emailed him and said he had until the end of the month to vacate and the locks would be changed on April 30. He did not ever respond to the email, locks were set up to be changed. Kyler then emailed the day of the 30th, "Im cleaning the kitchen mind if I throw some of the expired things away." The lock appointment had to be canceled to ensure that he didnt receive the new key. In May, when Kyler was to move out, he began to slowly move his things, the new roommate attempted to schedule when he could move in, with no response from Kyler. Kyler moved all of his things out the 15th of the month except his bed. The new roommate moved his things into the apartment. On the last day of May, Kyler moved his bed out. Prior to moving his bed, I sent him emails and text messages saying he owed me 150 dollars for back utilities. No response. After he moved his bed out, left the key with no money, a text was sent requesting the money. Kyler replied with "I will never pay an asshole like you." He also said some things in text messages that he had been reading my emails. Over the months he had said some things to me where I had to think how he knew that information. Kyler also left one key, when I know he made 4-5 copies of the key. Immediately the locks were changed. Shortly after my new roommate began to unpack he noticed that his digital camera was missing. About a month after Kyler moved out, June. My new roommate and I came home from work at the same time, and sat down to dinner and turned on teh TV and the cable box was turned off, as I looked closer I noticed things had been moved around on the entertainment center, as I looked closer my Wii was gone. I called the Police and filed a report. There was no evidence, but my roommate and I's suspicion was that Kyler had broke into our apartment and stole my Wii. The next morning I went to make breakfast and pack my lunch and I noticed a box of cereal I had just bought was missing, and that the container of Deli meat I bought the day prior was also gone. I asked my current roommate if he had eaten them and he said he wouldnt have because he doesnt like any of them. A few days later my roommate noticed that whomever broke into our apartment had been in his room as well, they had stolen his old Ipod, Beyonce Live in Vegas DVD, a package of CD-R's, and the cords and software to the digital camera that had been missing since Kyler moved out. Since there was no evidence that Kyler was in our apartment the police arent able to do anything.
In total Kyler has taken from me financially:
-150 for utilities
-175 for the digital camera
-250 for the Nintendo Wii
-40 for the Beyonce DVD
-20 for the CD-R's package
-20 for the food
TOTAL:$655

Spread the word, everyone, this guy's a cheat and a thief, and has been since he lived in Seattle two or three years ago. He's RENOWNED in Seattle for conning people, and is largely persona non grata in the queer community here. He's slippery... but one of these days he's gonna get busted.
Okay, firstly, shame on you Evan for posting this. You know as well as I do that Kyler didn't take your stuff. He has had his rough patches in the past, yes, but he didn't take your stuff and all your friends agree with me on this.
He hated being your roommate as much as you hated him and now he is out of your life, and whatever bad things may have happened to you had nothing directly to do with the fact that he was your roommate. Please, LET IT GO.
And the rest of you - I am getting really tired of the completely bogus and untrue rumors flying around about the red dress party. I am vice president of the board and I see the books. Firstly, we don't even have our own 501c3 yet so all the money goes DIRECTLY to the AIDS Foundation of Chicago - we don't even TOUCH it. Secondly, everyone knows what his birth name is. Thirdly, the videos of him "stealing" were bogus and have been taken down by You Tube. So stop gossiping already, because it isn't true!
if any one is still looking to locate this asshole please leave a way to make contact! i can probably help and it wont cost a damn dime! he just tried to screw over the wrong person, and this one will bite him in the ass! his real name is Courtney d. Powell
Kyler Powell is now claiming his middle name is "Ashton". It is not. Clearly he is a fraud and now he will take the Chicago Red Dress Party's money for himself. Look out Chicago. Learn from his lies in Seattle.
Evan, I'm so sorry this happened to you. You of all people do not deserve this treatment. Sadly it's happened before with Kyler; in Seattle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EERsCGN4Z6o
Yeah I saw that, only after the situation... its too bad, but I fully believe Karma is a Bit@h and he will get what is coming to him!
This situation is ideally suited for small claims court. Judge Judy and other famous judges might be worth considering as well because then you could drag this out onto television.
