Description:

The only reason that I am going to do this post is so that no one else out there spends their hard earned money (first, last, and deposit) only to have to be stuck somewhere that heroine, crack, and meth addicts wouldn't even be caught in.

I have been told on several occasion that if I want my home fumigated for pest to do it myself. I HAVE DONE THIS. I keep the house spotless, then spray spray spray and pray.
When something breaks down it is like pulling teeth to have them send someone out to fix it.
Then if there is a leak somewhere you have gnats flying around the house.
The roaches number in the tens of thousands or maybe even more but, my husband is afraid to complain because, we do not have the (first, last, deposit) money to move.
And he was told by his some of his relatives that also rent from this slum lord that if you complain he will evict you rather then fix the problem.

Is this legal?
We have a child and roached not only carry disease but, it is embarrassing that my child can not invite her friends over to the house.
Not to mention that every time you go to the bathroom you have to throw away the top part of the toilet paper cause you don't know whats been crawling on it.
The roaches don't even try to hide.
That is how bad they are now.

It makes you feel dirty, when your house is clean but, it is overrun with roaches.

Go to your local courthouse and pick up some literature about what you can do as a renter. You may be able to start putting your rent into an escrow account and you may be able to take your landlord to court where the judge will decide what to do. An escrow account is where you keep all your rent so you can prove in court that you have the money to pay the landlord but you will only pay if he makes the changes that he is required to make according to the lease you have with the landlord. Keep documentation on all your conversations with the landlord or his business and stay CONSISTENT! You may tell your landlord that your money is in escrow and that you will see him in court. Now, it is up to you to see if the laws are the same in Florida as they are in many states.

I must admit, I am a landlord and I have also been a renter for many years before that and I know how it is to be on both sides of the spectrum. I know as a renter that I have had slumlords and I know as a landlord that there are people that create their own problems by destroying my property. But no matter what end of the spectrum you are on you must learn to use the court system to get what is rightfully yours. Go to court with a good case and the judge just might give you the option of breaking your lease and moving out or the judge may force the landlord to do all the things he needs to do to make things clean on the homefront.

I hope you find this helpful.
