In 2007 my son was born(nov.07) in the spring of 08 My doctor recommended that I have Mirena placed since I was " A perfect canidate, being married and not planning to have any more children in the next 5 years." My Main concern with this was the fact that I had endometriosis at 18 (now in 23) 20 at the time Mirena was placed, (endometriosis) lead to me having my right fallopian tube removed. The Mirena device blocks the fallopian tubes, and so I was concerned, not having one of the tubes How this would stay in place? Dr. Hancock reassured me that the missing tube would Not be an issue, AT ALL. However, the pressure & frequent pains NEVER subsided after placement, instead they only got worse over time. Then in the spring of 2010 I could no longer bear the pain,(even though I had built a tolerence) I felt as if some (thing) was stuck inside me like a knife, being twisted with every movement. I called the doctor who advised me she was sure it had nothing to do with the mirena, even though I insisted I felt pain from it. I was seen by the doctor 3 times, opened up examined, poked, vagina ultrasounds ALL which was extremely painful....given some antibiotics, which only temporarily relieved the pain by reducing the swelling, however the pain returned and More severe then ever! Finally, with the help of Several doctors they were able to locate the mirena & remove it, which also Stopped the pain!!! Now I am being billed for all the (unecessary)test ran that my insurance didnt cover completely... I feel that I was pressured into something that I was originally against, but reassured by my healthcare provider, I feel that the Only reason this was "suggested" was because the doctor received more money on her behalf to insert this device(instead of writing scrpit for birth control), and disregarded my individual history with my health. I feel that I was disrespected in the fact that I had told them for 3months I was in severe pain and was given antibiotics? & sent home, to suffer. I dont want this to happen to anyone else & I feel this is something that should Not be Unknown! Please Help!

Though this has not happened to me this is my BIGGEST FEAR when it comes to IUD's and other prescriptions. It is common knowledge that some doctors receive extra money to line their pockets from pharmaceutical companies while their patients think they are on the up and up. I think it takes a lot of guts to post something this personal about yourself but it is a necessary evil in order to prevent other woman and young adults from being lead down the wrong path. If you really feel that you should not be responsible for these bills and that there was really honestly malpractice involved you should consider contacting a good lawyer, if you haven't already. Who knows, there could be others this doctor has violated in this way. If so it could give you enough leverage in court not only to be able to have a bigger forum to speak out against this doctor but also to help with your unnecessary bills plus pain and suffering. Though it can be a long and tedious journey if you opt down this path sometimes something this wrong can't be allowed to continue.
Good luck and I wish you better health in the coming years!
