Description:

Paychecks are little to live on...the cost to just live in general is outrageous....for the next, let say 5 years, could the government lower cost of everyday living...the things that you need to have to live, survive everyday or raise wages. So a poor person like me, could honestly and truly have a fighting chance in this world without such a sucky attitude.

I assume that you're in the USA...

The past 10 years have been absolutely terrible for the USA and the entire world. From multiple wars to financial market problems (which made the real estate markets go wild) to highly destructive politics (thanks to both President Bush Jr. and President Obama), all of which contributed greatly to the shrinking of the middle class.

The recession isn't over yet in my estimation, and I worry that the attempts to prevent things from getting really bad will only prolong the whole situation. Forcing employers to increase wages will result in increased costs for goods and services, and people still be stuck as they are now.

The reality is that life is really tough right now because many of the problems that began during the past 10 years have not yet run their course completely, and their effects cannot be changed quickly.

Fortunately the markets are historically cyclic, which means that we will eventually recover and money will be easier to earn again, but I'm not sure exactly when (although I figure there are at least 3 years to go yet before the recovery truly begins).

Immediate things that might be helpful to you:
- Consulting with a qualified Financial Advisor
- Finding a better (or additional) job
- Asking if there are any overtime options at your current job

I truly wish that the situation didn't get this bad, but now that it's here we mustn't lose sight of the fact that this is a very serious test of our character -- it's not only about survival, but about how to survive while not compromising our ethical standards.

For the long term: Have you considered the possibility of starting your own business (either alone, or with some friends)? If there's some niche that you can service somehow, that could obviously be helpful to determining what to do, and it could even turn into something much bigger than your current job depending on how you develop it. Hopefully you can find something that is of interest to you or that you are knowledgeable about -- that can make success come more easily.

There are always options, but often times we have to seek them out.
